February is National Embroidery month! Making it the perfect time to start an embroidery project. I have soooo many options for you to choose from this month. You're sure to find something you'll want to embroider.
I try to make all my classes as beginner-friendly as possible. At each workshop, all materials are provided and I guide you step by step through the design from start to finish. Each workshop covers a variety of stitches and techniques so you're sure to learn something new in each class.

February 8: Flower Pockets at Monster from 6:30-9pm PST
Give yourself some flowers! Embellish a bouquet into your pocket. This could be a shirt pocket, pants pocket, or even a dress pocket. Any pocket that needs florals. Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on, 2.5 hour workshop. She’ll show you how to get started with embroidering your clothing and cover stitches like the stem stitch, detached chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, leaf stitch, French knot, and bullion knot.
A full kit is included with this class and comes with full skeins of DMC thread in various colors, transfer designs, a wood embroidery hoop, an embroidery needle, and printed instructions. Attendees will need to bring their own garments with a pocket to embroider.
February 9: Embroidered Photo Frames at Make Apothecary from 6:-8:30pm PST
Want to create an embroidered photo frame keepsake? Create a personalized hand stitched frame to remember a special memory, location, event, and more. This two-hour hands-on class with Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ will get you started with hand embroidering a photo frame. Each person will be able to choose from a variety of nature inspired patterns and thread colors to create a personalized project. Class will cover hand embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, split back stitch, stem stitch, and French knot. Frame fits up to a 4x3 photo. Photo frames are examples of what can be created with this class. Designs will vary.
February 11: Upcycle Your Clothing with Hand Embroidery at Picket Fence Art Studio from 2-4pm PST
Cover up stains and small holes in your clothing with hand embroidery. Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on workshop. Simply bring a garment to embroider and we’ll provide you with playful nature-inspired sample designs to stitch. This class will cover helpful dos and don’ts of embroidering garments as well as stitches best suited for your individual garment and pattern. Each attendee will also receive an embroidery hoop, thread, needle, and stabilizer to get started. This workshop is beginner-friendly and no prior embroidery experience is required.
February 12: 3D Blooming Wildflower Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-9pm PST
Let’s create whimsical wildflowers! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of wildflowers in this embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two and a half hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, leaf stitch, French knot, and woven picot stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, transfer design, sewing pins, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, a cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.

February 20: Magical Mushroom Embroidery at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST
Let’s stitch magical mushrooms! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of fungi in this embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, reverse chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, mushroom transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.
February 21: Wildflower Embroidery Basics at UW Botanic Gardens from 6-8pm PST
Flower power time! Learn to embroider wildflowers in this embroidery basics workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, reverse chain stitch, leaf stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes: a wooden embroidery hoop, floral transfer designs, embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, surprise pink pattern fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.
February 22: Indigo Dyeing Tea Towels at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm PST
Explore the magic of indigo dyeing with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. Learn how to fold and bind fabric to create patterns and designs with indigo dye. You’ll love seeing the dye change colors, and your designs come to life! Each attendee will receive four cotton tea towels to create their own patterns and are also encouraged to bring additional materials to dye, although no items larger than 3ft x 3ft. This class can get messy, so please wear clothing you don’t mind getting a little dye on.
February 28: Stumpwork Strawberries with Sew Expo at the Washington State Fair Grounds from 8am-12noon PST
Want to create textural embroidery that pops off the fabric? Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ to learn stumpwork with this delightful strawberry design. Stumpwork is a type of textural embroidery that uses padding and wire to create elements that stand away from the fabric creating 3D elements. In this 4 hour class you’ll learn how to make a sculptural strawberry and leaves that stick out from the fabric. You’ll learn how to stitch the stem stitch, pistil stitch, detached chain stitch, berry stitch, couching, long and short satin stitch, button hole stitch, and corded detached buttonhole stitch. All materials are included. This class is best suited for makers that have stitched before, however all are welcome.
