Double Darning Stitch
The double darning stitch is a variation of the running stitch. This stitch looks like rows of short stitches all in line. This stitch is often used for mending but can also be used as a filling stitch. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the double darning stitch.

1. To create the double darning stitch you must first know how to stitch the running stitch. Start by stitching a line of running stitches.
2. Once the first row is complete, bring the needle up at the beginning of the first stitch. Insert the needle at the end of previous stitch, filling in the gap. This is like the double running/ Holbein stitch.
3. Continue until the end of the row. Add another row of running stitches above the first. These should be in line with the first row of stitches.
4. At the end of the row, work backwards, filling in the spaces.
5. Continue until the desired number of rows are stitched.
