Persian Boarder Couching Stitch

The Persian boarder couching stitch uses a zig zag thread to hold thread in place. This stitch is part of the couching stitch family and makes playful decorative boarders, among other uses. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the Persian boarder couching stitch.

What you'll need to create the Persian boarder couching stitch:

• cotton fabric

• embroidery hoop

• embroidery thread

• embroidery needle

• embroidery scissors

Persian Boarder Couching Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial

1. Start the Persian boarder couching stitch by stitching the laid thread. This can be loose thread or long stitches.

2. Next bring another thread up by the bottom corner of the laid thread.

3. Hold the thread across the laid thread and use a third thread to tac it in place. The tacking stitch should be made next to the laid thread.

4. Now repeat. Hold the zig zag thread to the opposite side of the laid thread at a diagonal line. Then use the tacking thread to hold it in place.

5. Work along the laid thread creating a zig zag/ wiggly line over the laid thread.

6. After the laid thread is covered, bring the tacking thread to the back of the fabric and knot it off. Then bring the zig zag thread back to the fabric next to the outer edge of the laid thread, and knot it.
