3 Benefits of Hand Embroidery

I'm sure you know by now that I live and breathe all things hand embroidery. While I've tried other crafts, embroidery is always the one constant I continue to go back to and love. I could go on and on about how I love the portability of embroidery, the creative process, and how small steady efforts turn into big results. But one of things I love most about this craft is that it's not only beautiful, it's also good for your wellbeing.

Don't believe me? Here's a few ways embroidery can benefit your life.

Develope Creativity

From start to finish, embroidery is a creative process. I'm often inspired by the world around me. I use that inspiration to create sketches that then translate to embroidery patterns. And that's just the first step. Next comes figuring out colors, stitches, and embellishments. Did you know that people who are exposed to creativity become more creative? In case you're in a creative rut, here's a few ways to spark creativity.

Mentally Rewarding

We all know that feeling. After a long day of work you sit down for a few minutes of crafting and you just feel better. Turns out science has confirmed that feeling. Leisure activities, like crafting, improve mood, daily health, and well-being. Studies have also shown that needle crafts, like embroidery, knitting, and even quilting are helpful with alleviating depression and anxiety. A study published in 2011 even found that crafting was linked with a lower chance of developing mild cognitive impairment. That all sounds like good reasons to craft!

Digital Detox

Do you find yourself on your computer, phone, or other digital device all day long? The need to break away from technology was one of the main reasons I got back into embroidery. It's also what many of my embroidery friends say drew them to the craft as well.
