How to Shop Small and Get Crafty this December

December 1: Holiday Cactus Ornament from 6-8pm PST at Northwest Makes

Looking to spend time with friends and family this holiday season? Why not stitch a quirky cactus ornament together? Fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ will share how to create Santa hat and Christmas light cactus ornaments in an online two-hour, hands-on workshop. No embroidery experience needed. We’ll cover basic hand embroidery stitches so you can create your own playful cactus holiday ornament. These ornaments are perfect to hang on your tree or give as unique gifts. Each attendee will receive a workshop kit that includes an embroidery hoop, assorted full skeins of DMC embroidery thread, white fabric, an embroidery needle, felt, twine, and printed instructions. December 2: Virtual Winter Botanical Embroidery Basics from 6-8pm PST with Monster

Stitch the botanicals of winter from the comfort of your home with local fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. Snuggle up with a hot beverage, a cozy blanket, and we’ll cover embroidery basics while stitching winter plants in this hands-on, two-hour online workshop. Urban Craft Uprising is Seattle’s largest indie craft show! December 14: Tropical Plant Embroidery Basics from 6:30-8:30pm at Monster

Let’s get tropical! Learn to embroider tropical plants in this hands-on embroidery basics workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the back stitch, reverse chain stitch, satin stitch, lazy daisy stitch, stem stitch, leaf stitch, and long and short satin stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, tropical transfer designs, embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, a surprise pattern fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions. Our live, online, 2-hour workshop will cover basic embroidery stitches such as the back stitch, reverse chain stitch, straight stitch, and French knot, plus techniques as we create a cactus snow globe design.
