As the days start to get colder, darker, and drearier, our spidey senses start to tell us it's time to gather for crafting. These could be all sorts of crafts, like hand embroidery. Or getting into the ghoulish holiday spirit- whatever your crafty heart desires. You can never have too much crafting with an October workshop, especially with friends!
If you need a space to gather and a craft to do together, then I have a wide variety of hand embroidery options for you to enjoy this October. From Fall themed stitching to mending to embroidery basics, to playing with fabric, thread, and more, it's all on the calendar! You're sure to find something fun for you and your friends with an October embroidery workshop.
What can you expect with an MCreativeJ workshop? In our hand embroidery and dyeing class you'll enjoy a hands-on workshop with materials provided. You'll learn new skills, techniques, and get to ask all the questions you'd like. Even if you've never tried the craft before, you'll start at the very beginning and be guided through step-by-step. I try to make every class approachable and fun as you learn something new!

October Embroidery Workshops and Events
October 2: Textural Gourds Embroidery from 6-8pm at Wyldwood Creative
Want to learn how to create textural embroidery? Join Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a 2 hour, hands-on workshop. We’ll be stitching nobly, texture-filled gourds using the chain stitch, colonial knot, split stitch, and Danish knot. When you join this class, you’ll also receive a full kit that includes a beechwood embroidery hoop, cream cotton fabric, embroidery needle, full skeins of thread, gourd transfer patterns, backing materials, and printed instructions.
October 3: Winter Botanical Napkin Embroidery from 10am-1pm PST with PNNAG
Let's stitch some winter greenery. Learn a new skill or brush up on an old one with local fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. In this hands-on, two-hour workshop, you’ll learn to embroider the stem stitch, French knot, leaf stitch, and bullion knot stitch to add winter plants to napkins. You will receive a workshop kit that includes an embroidery hoop, assorted full skeins of DMC embroidery thread, two white cotton napkins, winter botanical transfer designs, an embroidery needle, and printed instructions. Whether you're an embroidery newbie or a stitching pro, you're sure to learn new stitches, techniques, and tips!
October 4: Mushroom Embroidery Basics from 10am-12noon at UW Botanic Garden
Let’s stitch magical mushrooms! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of fungi in this embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, reverse chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, mushroom transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.
October 8: Embroidered Patch Mending from 6:30-8:30pm PST at Swoon City
Does your clothing have a hole in it? Learn how to patch that hole with embroidery! In this two-hour, hands-on workshop with fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ, you’ll learn how to get started with visible mending patches, different threads and materials to use, and stitches for mending your specific garment. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of threads and nature inspired patterns to create your embroidered patch. You can bring a cotton or denim garment to mend in class or practice on cotton fabrics. All other materials are provided.
October 10-11: Renegade Seattle from 11am-5pm at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall
October 11: Upcycle Your Clothing with Hand Embroidery from 2-4pm PST at Ugly Baby Workshop
Cover up stains and small holes in your clothing with hand embroidery. Join fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a hands-on workshop. Simply bring a garment to embroider and we’ll provide you with playful nature-inspired sample designs to stitch. This class will cover helpful dos and don’ts of embroidering garments as well as stitches best suited for your individual garment and pattern. Each attendee will also receive an embroidery hoop, thread, needle, and stabilizer to get started. This workshop is beginner-friendly and no prior embroidery experience is required. You can bring a garment to embroider in class or practice on cotton fabric.
October 15: Fabric Landscapes from 6-8pm PST at Ugly Baby Workshop
Let’s collage landscapes with fabric! Learn how to create your own fabric landscape using raw edge applique and hand embroidery with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop will cover how to pair fabrics to create your own unique landscapes, basic raw edge applique and beginner-friendly embroidery stitches. You will get to choose from a wide variety of fabrics, thread colors, and various hoop shapes to bring your landscape to life.
October 18: Cactus Embroidery Basics from 10am-12noon PST at Swoon City
Calling all cactus and plant lovers! Learn beginner and intermediate embroidery stitches in this cactus inspired workshop. In this two-hour, hands-on workshop we'll cover an easy design transfer method, how to get started with embroidery, splitting thread, making knots, and stitches such as the back stitch, reverse chain stitch, couching, needle weaving, and more! In class, you will receive a wood embroidery hoop, cactus transfer designs, embroidery needle, your choice of embroidery thread, cotton fabric, and printed instructions. All skill levels are welcome.
October 24: Sashiko Inspired Visible Mending from 1-3pm PST at Make Apothecary
Want to learn how to stylishly mend your clothing? Sashiko is a Japanese mending technique that uses the running stitch to patch and reinforce garments with stylish geometric stitch patterns. In this 2-hour hands-on workshop with fiber artist and author Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ you’ll learn how to get started mending your clothing with sashiko. We’ll cover how to design a pattern, reinforce a garment with a patch, prep your thread, create the running stitch, finish your thread, and care for your garment. All materials are provided.
October 25: PNW Animal Embroidery Basics from 2-4pm PST at Ugly Baby Workshop
Celebrate animals of the Pacific Northwest in hand embroidery. In this beginner-friendly workshop you can learn how to embroider an orca, black bear, river otter pair, cougar, salmon, or giant octopus. Fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ will show you how to use beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin, reverse chain, French knot, and couching stitches to bring your animal to life. You’ll receive an embroidery hoop, fabric, embroidery needle, colorful embroidery thread, water soluble animal patterns, and printed instructions in class. This workshop is beginner-friendly and all skill levels are welcome.
