Craft the Summer Away with these Workshops and Events



While summer may be drawing to a close, that doesn't mean you have to stop crafting! Join me for a virtual or in-person workshop or pop up this month and let's get crafty.


August 7: Tacoma Summerfest from 10-4pm with Urban Craft Uprising

You'll find 75+ artists, makers, and food trucks selling handmade items and food. Here you'll be able to shop for great finds for wedding gifts, housewarming presents, handmade jewelry and clothing, decor for your home, a chance to treat yourself with organic body and skin care products, and more. All vendors will be selling handmade goods, and Tacoma Spring Fest is a great way to support handmade small businesses, many of which will be from Tacoma, themselves. More details.

August 14: SODO Flea Market from 10-4pm

The SODO Flea Market is a free, monthly market that brings together some of the best vendors from Seattle, Portland, and surrounding WA cities. Find a curated selection of over 50 vendors selling antiques, vintage clothing, and handmade goods. There are food / coffee trucks and the market is family and pet friendly. Come on down and see why SODO Flea is the place to be! More details.


August 17: Desert Landscape Pins from 6-8pm at Spacecraft

Calling all desert lovers and dreamers, let's create some flair! That's right, in this two-hour, hands-on class you'll learn how to stitch your own hand embroidered pin. Attendees will receive a surprise pin shape and materials to create their own piece of wearable art. You'll learn how to stitch the satin stitch, back stitch, reverse chain stitch, running stitch, and straight stitch, as well as tips and tricks to help you create your own unique pin. For the best possible outcome, come with your own landscape design ideas in mind. Advance registration strongly encouraged. More details and RSVP here.


August 21: Embroidered Bee T-Shirt from 11am-1pm with Jenny Lemons

Have you ever wanted to add embroidery to your t-shirt? Well, now you can! Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ in a two-hour online workshop. You'll learn the leaf stitch, back stitch, long and short satin stitch, and stem stitch to create this bee and leaf design, specifics of how to embroider on clothing, and tips and tricks to making your embroidered clothing last. Simply bring your own t-shirt, we'll mail you a kit, and let's get stitching. Register for this class and receive a kit that includes: DMC embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, a transfer pattern, iron on stabilizer, an embroidery hoop, and printed instructions. August 22: Wildflower Embroidery Basics from 12-2:30pm at A Little Knitty

Celebrate summertime flowers! Learn to embroider wildflowers in this in-person embroidery basics workshop with local fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This 2 1/2 hour, hands-on workshop is great for beginning stitchers as well as those looking to explore embroidery basics. We'll cover 6 embroidery stitches and each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, floral transfer designs, embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, a surprise pattern fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions. August 28: Blooming Wildflower 3D Embroidery Workshop with Wyldwood Creative

Let’s create whimsical wildflowers! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of wildflowers in this embroidery workshop. Your flowers will pop off the fabric, literally! This two and a half hour hands-on, in-person workshop covers the satin stitch, back stitch, stem stitch, leaf stitch, French knot, and woven picot stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes a wooden embroidery hoop, a transfer design, sewing pins, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions.
