Detached Needle Weaving Petal Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. Start by placing an odd number of pins into the front of the fabric. The pins should enter the fabric at the top of the shape and come out of the fabric and the center bottom point.

2. Next make a short straight stitch at the base of the needle weaving petal over the pins. This will determine how wide the stitch is at the base.
3. Then bring the needle back up through the fabric just below the end of the straight stitch.

4. Now make the lines to weave through. Wrap the thread around the outermost sewing pins, then slide the needle underneath the straight stitch. Tug so that the thread is flush with the fabric, but not too tight that the straight stitch is warped.
5. Repeat wrapping the thread around the other pins and bringing the needle underneath the straight stitch.

6. After all of the pins are wrapped, it's time to start weaving. Using the eye of the needle, thread it through the wrapped threads in the opposite direction from which the thread is coming out of the wraps. Make sure to alternate bringing the needle over and under the wrapped threads. At the end of the woven lines, pull the thread through and push it down to the base of the petal.
7. Repeat weaving in the opposite direction. Be sure not to pull the thread too tightly, otherwise it will distort the shape of the petal.

8. Weave the thread until it can't be woven through the wrapped thread anymore.

9. Then remove the sewing pins. After the pins are removed, thread the needle through the side of the petal. Bring the needle back down into the fabric and tie it off on the back of the fabric. This creates one detached needle weaving petal.
