Fan Stitch
The fan stitch is one of those stitches whose name tells you exactly what it is, a fan. This 7 pronged fan is great as a standalone design such as a flower, for decorative boarders, or used as a filling stitch to add texture. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the fan stitch.
What you'll need to create the fan stitch:

Fan Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. The fan stitch is traditionally worked in a grid or diamond pattern. Start by bringing the needle up in the top left corner of the square. Then bring the needle down in the bottom left corner of the square, creating a straight stitch.
2. Create the second prong in the fan. Bring the needle up slightly to the right of the previous stitch, along the top of the square. Now bring the needle down through the fabric in the bottom left corner.
3. Repeat adding the third prong of the fan.

4. The fourth prong of the fan will start in the right corner of the square.

5. The fifth and sixth prongs of the fan will start along the right side of the square, slightly below each previous stitch.
6. The seventh prong of the fan will start in the bottom right corner of the square.
