Herringbone Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. The herringbone stitch looks like rows of Xs that cross over themselves. To start this stitch, it’s easiest to have guidelines on either side of where you are stitching. Bring the needle up on one line. Now make a diagonal stitch across to the other line.

2. Bring the needle up through the fabric slightly behind the stitch that was just made along the same line, as if you were making a back stitch.

3. Now make a diagonal stitch across to the other side.

4. Bring the needle up slightly behind the previous stitch to start the next diagonal stitch across to the other side.
5. Repeat until the space is filled in.
