Plaid Filling Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. To start the plaid filling stitch create horizontal rows that are about 1/4 and inch apart.
2. Next create vertical rows that are also space out 1/4 of an inch. These rows should overlap the horizontal rows, creating a grid.
3. Next create the tacking stitch pattern. Start with the horizontal stitches. In the first grid row, create a short horizontal line that overlaps the base of two vertical lines. Move over to the next two vertical lines in the row and repeat, creating a dashed line. Now create another dashed line slightly above the first as you stitch back the opposite direction.
4. In the next grid row add two horizontal lines in the opposite squares from the row below. Alternate working up the grid. If the grid is uneven, the end row will have two half lines.
5. Once the horizontal lines are stitched, add in the vertical cross hatch lines. These are created the same as the horizontal lines, except they are vertical. These lines will overlap the horizontal lines, creating a number or hashtag symbol.
