What You Can Stitch & Dye This July

July is finally here and it's finally feeling like summer in the Pacific Northwest. After rainy gloomy days through June, I'm loving this bright sunny weather. And thanks to such lovely weather, I've also planned some outdoor workshops for you to stitch and dye!


See what's coming up this month and how you can get crafty.


July 8: Fruit Tote at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm

Squeeze some fun out of grocery shopping and running errands with this fruity tote bag. Join me in learning how to embroider fruit onto a tote bag. We’ll use the back stitch, seed stitch, French Knot, and the reverse chain stitch to add fruity details to a canvas tote. This in-person class comes with a full kit that includes: 8 Peel stick and stitch fruit designs, full skeins of DMC thread in various colors, a canvas tote, a needle, a 4-inch embroidery hoop, printed Instructions, and in-person instruction. July 10: Rainbow Hat at Wyldwood Creative from 1-3pm

You can learn to stitch a whimsical rainbow baseball hat. Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a two-hour, hands-on workshop and stitch a rainbow cap. We’ll use rainbow colors and the seed stitch, lazy daisy stitch, fly stitch, reverse chain stitch, and the pekinese stitch during class to create a gorgeous rainbow. This class is great for stitchers who have some embroidery experience, and all are welcome. Each class participant will receive a full kit that includes a blue adjustable baseball hat (one-size fits most), rainbow transfer design, full skeins of thread, a needle, and printed instructions. July 16: Kids Succulents at Make Apothecary from 10-11:30am

Learn to stitch a succulent of your choice with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This 1.5 hour, hands-on workshop helps new stitchers (ages 12+) get started with embroidery. We'll cover prepping fabric in the hoop, splitting, knotting, and threading as well as basic embroidery stitches like the satin stitch, seed stitch, and reverse chain stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes: a wooden embroidery hoop, succulent transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, and printed instructions. July 19: Kids Mushrooms at Wyldwood Creative from 2-3:30pm

Learn to stitch a mushroom with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This 1.5 hour, hands-on workshop helps new stitchers (ages 12+) get started with embroidery. We'll cover prepping fabric in the hoop, splitting, knotting, and threading as well as basic embroidery stitches like the satin stitch, back stitch, and straight stitch. Each attendee will receive a full kit that includes: a wooden embroidery hoop, mushroom transfer design, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, a needle threader, and printed instructions. July 21: Fabric Landscapes at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm

Let’s create collage landscapes with fabric! Learn how to create your own fabric landscape using applique embroidery with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop will cover how to pair fabrics to create your own unique landscapes, basic applique and beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the running stitch, satin stitch, chain stitch, and fly stitch. Each participant will receive a full class kit that includes an embroidery hoop, cotton fabrics, full skeins of embroidery thread, embroidery needle, sewing pins, backing materials, and printed instructions. July 22- 24: Alki Art Fair at Alki Beach

Join me for 3 days of fun in the sun at Alki Beach. I'll be joining fellow local artists. Stop by to find your next stitch project or to just chat.

July 28: Bee T-Shirt at Monster from 6:30-8:30pm

Have you ever wanted to add embroidery to your t-shirt? Well now you can! Join me in a two-hour workshop. You'll learn the leaf stitch, back stitch, satin stitch, and stem stitch to create this bee and leaf design, specifics of how to embroider on clothing, and tips and tricks to making your embroidered clothing last. Simply bring your own t-shirt and let's get stitching. Class participants will receive a materials kit that includes DMC embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, a transfer pattern, iron-on stabilizer, an embroidery hoop, and printed instructions.
