Detached Popcorn Lazy Daisy Stitch
The detached popcorn lazy daisy stitch is a variation of the popcorn lazy daisy stitch that creates filled in loops, like flower petals. The detached variation turns this stitch 3D so that the petal pops away from the fabric. It's a great way to add movement, dimension, and texture to an embroidery. Use this DIY video and step-by-step tutorial to learn how to embroider the detached popcorn lazy daisy stitch.
What you'll need to create the detached popcorn lazy daisy stitch:

1. Bring the needle up from the back of the fabric. Make a short stitch forward, this will be the width of the detached popcorn lazy daisy stitch.
2. Next, bring the needle up underneath the middle of the stitch that was just made.
3. Now hold a drinking straw slightly above the straight stitch, at the length of the desired loops. Then create the popcorn lazy daisy by stitching through around the drinking straw and sliding the needle underneath the straight stitch.
4. After the loops are created, gently slide away the drinking straw.
5. Keeping the loops taught, slide the needle through the loops.
6. Wrap the working thread around the needle twice, from back to front.
7. Then gently pinch the loops and pull the needle through.
8. Tug so that a small knot forms at the top of the loops.
9. Then slide the needle down the back of the popcorn lazy daisy stitch. End the stitch with a slip knot at the back of the fabric.
