Try A Workshop for Craft Month!

Did you know that March is National Craft Month. These first few months of the year are filled with ways to dive in, try new things, and getting your hands dirty (kind of!) I love seeing crafters inspired to give embroidery a try and also fall in love with this needle craft. Through in-person and virtual classes, it's such a joy to see that ah-ha moment and the excitement of learning something new.

March 3: Virtual Blooming Wildflowers from 2-4:30pm with Sew Expo

Let’s create whimsical wildflowers! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of wildflowers in this online embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two and a half hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches and each attendee will receive a full kit. Kits include a wooden embroidery hoop, transfer design, sewing pins, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, a cream cotton fabric, pins, and backing materials. Register here.


March 3: Virtual Bee T-Shirt from 5-7:30pm with Sew Expo

Have you ever wanted to add embroidery to your t-shirt? Well now you can! Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ in a workshop. You’ll learn the leaf stitch, back stitch, satin stitch, and stem stitch to create this bee and leaf design, specifics of how to embroider on clothing, and tips and tricks to making your embroidered clothing last. March 4: Desert Landscape Pins from 11am-1:30pm with Sew Expo

Wear your flair! That’s right, in this hands-on class you’ll learn how to stitch your own hand embroidered pin. You will receive a surprise pin shape and materials to create their own piece of wearable desert art. Fiber artist, Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ will share her hand embroidery expertise, tips, and tricks to help you create your own unique pin. Come with landscape design ideas in mind. March 5: Free Virtual Drawing with Thread from 11-11:45am with Sew Expo

Have you ever wanted to try embroidery but aren’t sure where to start? In this beginning embroidery, you will learn classic and experimental hand sewing techniques to create drawings in thread. We will learn how to successfully sew several different embroidery stitches that will create unique surfaces, lines, and textures. The class will begin with introductions and check-in about everyone’s skill level. We will start at the very beginning with how to select appropriate fabric for embroidery. Learn more here.

From the mountains to the desert, adventure is calling! Learn to embroider a whimsical mountainscape in this online embroidery basics workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop covers 5 beginner-friendly embroidery stitches, an easy design transfer method, and tips and tricks to make embroidery easy and fun. March 10: Virtual Rainbow Hat from 6-8pm with Spacecraft

Wear your pride, love and hope. You can learn to stitch a whimsical rainbow baseball hat. Join fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ for a two-hour, hands-on workshop and stitch a rainbow cap. We’ll use rainbow colors and the seed stitch, lazy daisy stitch, fly stitch, reverse chain stitch, and the pekinese stitch during class to create a gorgeous rainbow. This class is great for stitchers who have some embroidery experience, and all are welcome. Each class participant will receive a full kit that includes a blue adjustable baseball hat (one-size fits all), rainbow transfer design, full skeins of thread, a needle, and printed instructions. March 20: Prickly Pear Earrings from 1-3pm with Wyldwood Creative

Create your own pair of mini prickly pear cactus earrings in this two-hour, hands-on workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. In this class, you’ll learn how to transfer a design, create the radial satin stitch, seed stitch, and running stitch, as well as finish your embroidery in the earring setting. Each participant will receive a full kit that includes peach cotton fabric, a beechwood embroidery hoop, an embroidery needle, full skeins of DMC thread, a transfer pen, a pair of earring settings, and printed instructions. March 21: Virtual Mushroom Embroidery Basics from 6:30-8:30pm with Monster

Let’s stitch magical mushrooms! Learn to embroider a playful bunch of fungi in this online embroidery workshop with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two hour, hands-on workshop covers a variety of beginner-friendly embroidery stitches such as the satin stitch, back stitch, reverse chain stitch, long and short satin stitch, and French knot. Each attendee will receive a full kit. Kits are mailed to you and include: a wooden embroidery hoop, mushroom transfer designs, an embroidery needle, full skeins of embroidery thread, cream cotton fabric, backing materials, and printed instructions. A recording of the workshop will be available after class. Please register by March 14 so we can mail you your kit for class.


March 26: Making Local Markets- Downtown Bothell

March 28: Plants + Shapes Applique Embroidery from 6:30-8:30pm with Monster

Let’s mix and match fabric and embroidery! Learn how to applique abstract fabric shapes and plants with fiber artist Melissa Galbraith of MCreativeJ. This two-hour, hands-on workshop will cover basic applique and beginner-friendly embroidery stitches like the running stitch, satin stitch, back stitch, and button hole stitch. Each participant will receive a full class kit that includes an embroidery hoop, cotton fabrics, full skeins of embroidery thread, embroidery needle, sewing pins, backing materials, and printed instructions.
