Double Herringbone Stitch Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. The herringbone stitch looks like rows of Xs that cross over themselves. The double herringbone stitch is two layers of the herringbone stitch on top of one another so that they crisscross. To start this stitch, it’s easiest to have guidelines on either side of where you are stitching. Then stitch one layer of the herringbone stitch. Now bring the needle up on the opposite side from where the first row of herringbone stitches started. Now make a diagonal stitch across to the other line.

2. Bring the needle up through the fabric slightly behind the stitch that was just made along the same line, as if you were making a back stitch. This stitch will be made in the space of the un-Xed gap.

3. Now make a diagonal stitch across to the other side.

4. Bring the needle up slightly behind the previous stitch to start the next diagonal stitch across to the other side.

5. Repeat until the space is filled in.
