Must Have Hand Embroidery Accessories: Thread Bobbins and Hoop Frames

Must have embroidery accessories

What do you think are some of the top questions I get in my hand embroidery workshops?  Did you guess: How do I store my thread? or What do I do with this when I'm done stitching? While these aren't the only questions I get asked, these are some of the questions I get asked frequently. So here are some answers!

Hand Embroidery Accessories to Solve Thread Storage and Finishing Questions

How do I store my thread?

I love to use bobbins and clear boxes with dividers. I have a box for each color. There's one for blue, yellow/orange, purple, black and white, pink/red, brown/grey, and two for greens. And that's just for my DMC thread!

I love using thread bobbins because they're sturdy, I can write the name of the brand/color, and they're easy to store. When I pull out thread colors for a project, I like to put my bobbins on a ring to keep them all together. I'm all for a good system.

What do you do with your embroidery when you're done stitching?

The possibilities on this one are pretty endless! The simplest thing is to finish the embroidery in the hoop. You can even use a hoop frame to jazz it up and hard the hoop hardware. Additionally, I have blog tutorials on my website for how to turn your embroidery into a patch, stitching it only clothing, and so much more.

Two of my maker friends, Kate of Modern Hoopla and Jenny of Lucky Jonquil, make beautiful and functional products to help store your thread and frame your embroidery. I've added some of their best sellers to my website so you can also use some of my favorite hand embroidery accessories. I have a feeling you'll be asking, 'Why hasn't this been in my life sooner?'
